Great writing, Kristen. This story. And how you create a story out of the grime of a city.

Your poem also reminded me of that fantastic movie Wag The Dog, in which they create a narrative in which shoes are indeed hung on overhead cables to celebrate a war hero. Sort of. The movie is worth watching. I have also seen shoes hanging on overhead cables being depicted as a marker for where to prpcure illegal substances...
